Description
Honokiol is a lignan isolated from the bark, seed cones, and leaves of trees in the Magnolia family. Along with magnolol, 4-O-methylhonokiol, and obovatol, it has been found as a chemical compound in some traditional eastern herbal medicines. Honokiol is found in the presence of other related polyphenols, such as magnolol, with which it shares certain biologic characteristics. In preclinical models, honokiol was discovered to have antiangiogenic, antiinflammatory, and antitumor effects with no discernible toxicity.
